New Beginnings
That very first time you start up the engine and slip the bow line to take your own boat out for the first time without 'supervision', is not only a very stressful moment, but also quiet exciting. That was our Easter Sunday.
To be fair, the Solent was being very chilled out and relaxed. We had fair winds and calm waters but on our first outing on Inelsamo with just the two of us, those weather conditions were exactly what we needed. Craig took her out of her berth beautifully without any concern, and we headed out into the Channel. We managed to put up full sails without a 'man over board' situation and were even on hand and on standby for the Coastguard as a nearby yacht had hit a red marker and was sinking, sadly.
The real challenge came when we had to return to the marina and put Inelsamo back to bed! That is the tricky bit, particularly in a busy marina on Easter Sunday! But again, with obviously high anxiety levels and shaking hands, the Captain managed beautifully bringing her in smoothly. Not to be outdone, I even managed to 'step off' and tie the midship line without breaking a leg. So all in all it was well worth a
high five moment and a congratulatory drink.
We also then managed a walk around the village of Lymington to take in the gorgeous scenery.
Now for those of you observant enough...yes, it is the British Red Ensign and not the Australian. But Inelsamo is currently UK registered and therefore she must bear the British ensign. But I do intent to bring some green and gold to her soon. So don't worry!!
